FILMING & POST | Heal Through Time Journal
Lights. Camera. Action.
(May also include a soundtrack/music cue in between.)
The glamour, the sounds, the imagery taking place live action, beautiful reenactment of pain and remorse but also light, warmth and breath…
Behind-the-scenes on set. 2023.
Stop—let’s backtrack.
There isn’t much to write about this except that logistics and planning will never cease to end even until the day after the shoot. Everything prior is like a whirlwind, tossing and turning until you have finally got everything somewhat under control during the shoot.
Some things to make note leading up to and during the shoot:
Create a call sheet: list and tally the count of people for the shoot and their role and call times (ex. what time people are expected to arrive)
A full day shoot, meaning 10-12 hours, will keep you on your toes endlessly, always be ready, stay hydrated and eat well before the shoot.
Keep track of shoot schedule: don’t loose control of it! You always expect at least 1 hour more than your normal schedule but don’t allow too much idle time or production won’t get done.
Keep track of budget sheet: make sure you make note of everything, especially more incurred cost during the day of the shoot, ex. food, drinks, any miscellaneous equipment and craft.
Most importantly, always expect the unexpected…!!!
The last one is most likely the biggest learning curve, whether that be people arriving later than expected, some equipment did not work very well on the day off, realized we bought the wrong thing, and even delaying the production by two hours. All which very well happened but we made it work and everyone’s collaboration and effort was what really counted.
And while many things happened before and on set, it’s important to keep yourself and your peers hydrated, make sure everyone is eating and don’t let anything amiss. Take care of yourself and everyone else, because after all, it is under the responsibility of you if anything goes array.
The names are endless but thank you all so so much to everyone’s hard work and dedication for making this project possible.
And to the future me and the future you, you got this!
